Earlier this year St. Louis city officials passed an ordinance that raised the local minimum wage to $10 per hour for 2017 and to $11 for 2018. The Missouri Supreme Court ruled recently that the St. Louis law was legal, however the State of Missouri’s new preemption law will override the local law. Nationally at least 17 states have in place legislation that prevents local governments from setting the minimum wage.
